And So It Begins...

Ever since I was born I have been surrounded by leadership. My dad, Michael McCleve, is a great man who worked with BYU students in the field of leadership during many of my younger years. He would often take me and/or my siblings on campus field trips, on which we would play leadership games (occasionally) or, more often, sit in his office and play with the fun gadgets he had on his desk. I remember every year our mother taking us up to the Foundations of Leadership Conference in *Provo Canyon for an evening of fun with dad, where we would eat dinner with the college students and enjoy all the games and toys that were offered.

I was too little, at the time, to understand much of what my father was doing. Now, however, I have attended FOL by myself, with no mom or dad or siblings, and I have discovered the joy of learning to be a leader like my dad. I have grown to love everything to do with leadership; reading, writing, speaking, watching, learning, being...I hope that through this course, I will become more capable of managing and filling the many roles of leadership I have in my life, and that I can take a few steps closer to being the leader I see in myself.

*Thanks, Dad! I spaced that one!

  1. I think it's typical of any parent, but to be honest, I had no idea those experiences would have such an impact on my daughter. Yet, sitting here in Virginia reading what she has written, I can't help but feel a bit of pride.

By the way, it was in Provo Canyon, not Pleasant Grove Canyon. :)
